Weather conditions: |
| On 24 May the whole area was snowcovered with a layer of up to 50 sm thick; few snow-free patches were present only close to settlements. Areas of open water were present on rivers only in sites where ice was jammed. It rained with snow on this date, and from this time onwards intensive snow melt started. Day-time temperature reached +15øC on 28 May. By 30 May 80% of land was flooded due to melting, rivers spread over, so that their beds were difficult to identify. According to general impression the spring was very normal in timing, but rapid in development.

White-tailed Sea Eagles nested at high density (5 nests found), also recorded Rough-legged Buzzards, Peregrine Falcons, Eurasian Kestrel, Merlin, European Hobby, and old nests of Northern Goshawks. First waders to arrive on 26 May were Ruffs, and mass migration occurred from 27-30 May. Waders (still Ruffs mostly) were passing eastward in flocks of 5-10 birds. Eastern Curlew and godwits were recorded. Ruffs, Wood Sandpiper, Common and Pintail snipes had complete clutches by 7 June. Jack Snipe displayed.
